Cricket Whites

Cricket Whites generally consist of a basic white polo shirt and a pair of white trousers.  The derivation of the phrase “cricket whites” is comparatively obvious although now it becoming more acceptable to play in replica test match clothing that can vary in colour so the term “cricket whites” is now more loosely related to junior levels of play. Currently the ECB is pushing forward its plans to allow players to wear non white kit in the inaugural floodlit Test against Bangladesh at Lords in 2010. This is because red balls cannot be seen against a night sky, therefore if a white ball is sued the cricketers clothing must be another colour.  The phrase “cricket whites” could soon be a thing of the past but, for the moment, if you are just beginning to play cricket you will be asked to come in “cricket whites”.
