Kookaburra Cricket Bats
The Kookaburra brand was established in 1890 and their cricket bats are world famous as they constantly develop and improve the level and quality of the Kookaburra range of cricket bats. Ricky Punting, the Australian captain, was the first international player to use Kookaburra and still does, the Kahuna being his favourite.
The bats are hand crafted and naturally dried for optimum power. They come in either unbleached English or Kashmir willow. The Kookaburra Kahuna is made from English willow which is a soft fibrous reed that is dried and pressed and gives an enhanced performance from the bat, however it can become bruised or dented during play but this does not affect the performance of the bat. The Kashmir willow is grown overseas and is much harder than the English willow. The Kookaburra Kahuna Doom is made from Kashmir willow.
Kookaburra bats come “pre knocked in” but this does not mean all the work has been done as you will still have to do the final preparation. You must still spend about 45 minutes to one hour knocking in your bat with a bat mallet. Light taps are not sufficient; you do really need to hit it making sure that the toe and edges of the bat especially are knocked in. It is advisable, for the first few games, to play with an old rather than new ball.
There are 4 separate ranges
The Kahuna designed to deliver a power pack punch;
The Beast with ferocious power;
The Blade, much more lightweight designed to give speed and control and
The Ice, this has a large lower swell that allows you perfect balance and concentrated driving power.
